THE PTIS TEAM
Tim has over 20 years of experience with both packaging equipment and materials. His background includes packaging engineering, packaging R&D and consulting with Connection Packaging LLC (founder), HAVI, PTIS, Olympic Packaging Solutions LLC (founder), Starbucks, M&M/Mars and Nestlé. At Starbucks, he was responsible for leading a team of packaging engineers that were accountable for more than $40 million in annual packaging material spend and $10 million in annual packaging equipment spend. While at M&M/Mars, he was responsible for developing and implementing packaging for over six new product launches and implemented their first zipper reclose package. Tim holds a bachelor’s degree in packaging from Michigan State University.
Todd has over 19 years of experience in food and pharmaceutical packaging, in both R&D and operations capacities. As part of PTIS while it was part of HAVI as well as now, Todd has led projects and programs on package development process workflow improvements, packaging development strategy projects, and sustainability initiatives, including food waste. He also monitors and tracks consumer, retail channel, sustainability, legislation and technology trends as they pertain to packaging. Todd is the program lead for PTIS’s sustainability initiatives and is also a lead presenter and program leader at the PTIS’s Future of Packaging programs. Todd holds an MBA in Supply Chain Management and a Packaging degree from Michigan State University.
Phil is a packaging expert with over 25 years of leading edge business strategy and process optimization experience. Prior to working at PTIS, he was Director of Packaging at Kimberly-Clark Corporation and also led packaging development at Sweetheart Cup Company. Phil’s breadth of experience includes packaging material development, quality systems management, supplier identification and qualification, packaging source reduction, and holistic design integrating brand strategy and customer/shopper/user insights to packaging technology. He regularly guest lectures at Michigan State University and Western Michigan University on the subjects of the value of packaging and packaging economics.
DR. MICHAEL RICHMOND
Mike is a strategic business and technical leader with 30 years of experience across PTIS, Kellogg, Kraft, and Michigan State University, where he was an assistant professor in the School of Packaging. Mike has numerous achievement awards and commendations and is past head of the Industrial Advisory Committee for the Center for Advanced Food Technology (CAFT) at Rutgers University. Mike was recently inducted into the PMMI Packaging Hall of Fame and The MSU School of Packaging Hall of Fame. In 2013, Mike published “Creating Value Through Packaging: Unlocking a New Business and Management Strategy”. Mike lectures at both Michigan State University and Western Michigan University in their packaging and food marketing and M.B.A. programs.
30-year professional career as an entrepreneurial business and technical leader spans Packaging Technology Integrated Solutions (co-founder of PTIS), Kellogg’s, Sara Lee, Multiform Desiccants, Carton-Craft Corp., Burger King and General Foods. In 2008, he was inducted into the Michigan State University School of Packaging Hall of Fame and was recognized as 2008 Western Michigan Business Review – Thought Leaders. In 2016, Brian received the Reister-Davis-Brody Lifetime Achievement in Food Packaging. He has contributed to numerous industry journals and publications, including the 2012 book, Creating Value Through Packaging. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging from Michigan State University.
