The Future of Packaging dates back to the mid to late 1990s, and our friend Andy Hines guesses that it might be the single longest-running foresight program in the world. In the mid-late 90s, while Mike and Brian were working for Kellogg’s, a group of Washington, DC based Futurists launched multi-sponsor programs including the Future of Science & Technology, and the Future of Packaging. Our Futurist at Kellogg’s was Andy Hines, who for many years has led the Foresight Program at the University of Houston.
Recently, Todd Bukowski and Brian Wagner completed their Certifications in Foresight from The University of Houston, and “Foresight” is a hallmark of all we do for our clients at PTIS. In this month’s feature Packaging Foresight article, Andy Hines discusses the definition of Foresight, the power of Horizon 1, 2, 3 thinking, and opportunities to take advantage of Foresight studies strategically and tactically. For instance, what opportunities and threats should we be monitoring? Anticipatory issues? Chemicals of concern? Local, regional, national and global laws and regulations? Sustainability and Circularity? AI for work, design, disruptive thinking?
